NACMHA was founded in March 2000 and is 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are dedicated to preserving the coal mining heritage of Northern West Virginia, with the possibility of expansion in the future.
To educate the public on, maintain and preserve the historic and cultural heritage of coal mining in the Northern West Virginia coalfields, and eventually beyond.
At present our geographic focus is the northern coalfields of West Virginia which includes the six counties of Barbour, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Taylor. However, as our name implies, we plan to expand our area.
We currently have 3 exhibits in Fairmont. Our main exhibit entitled "Fairmont Coalfield: Six Counties" is located on the third floor of Arts & Antiques Marketplace.
A second is at our I-79 location adjacent to Coal Country Miniature Golf. Our new simulator "Ride in a Coal Mine" is also located here.
A third exhibit called "Black Diamonds" highlighting the handloading days is located inside the Middletown Commons behind the El Rey Restaurant.
Our office is located at 22 Coal Country Lane, Fairmont, WV 26554, US (Off Exit 137 of I-79)
